American Virginia RAPPER Missy Elliot prints new hertory as her name has been appointed as the first female hip-hop artist at Songwriter Hall of Fame, a tribute to those whose work represents and preserves the legacy of the spectrum of the most loved songs from music songbooks popular in the world. Missy Elliott, who is also a producer and songwriter, has won Grammy Awards five times in her career, so you don’t need to wonder why her name will be on the prestigious list in the showbiz world.
Missy Elliott has been a dominant force in hip-hop for three decades, with classic hits such as “Get Ur Freak On”, “Work It”, and “Lose Control”. While behind the scenes, she has donated her song writing skills to a number of great musicians including Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige and Janet Jackson. Elliott is the third rapper to be appointed to the Songwriter Hall of Fame, following Jermaine Dupri and Jay-Z.
Songwriters Hall of Fame described Elliott as “one of the most significant female artists in the hertory of contemporary music” and “cultural icon”. She released her widely lauded debut solo album, Supa Dupa Fly, in 1997 – paving the way for a series of hit singles “The Rain (Supa Incense Fly)”, “Sock It 2 Me”, “Hit Em Wit Da Hee”, and “Beep Me 911”. In 1999, Elliott released her second album, Da Real World, where the album contained songs that were included in the U.S. chart. R&B hit and ranked number one with the song “Hot Boyz (Remix)”.
In 2002, Elliott received her first Grammy award for Best Rap Performance on the song “Get Ur Freak On”, a song that catapulted her name from the album in 2001, a song that was very addictive at the time. “Work It”, the leading single from her fourth studio album, Under Construction, spent 10 weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received a Grammy award for Best Female Solo Rap Performance. Elliott’s sixth studio album, The Cookbook, consisted of a Grammy nominated single We Run Ther and a well-known song that fans often sing together titled “Lose Control”.
Missy Elliott is also the only female rapper who has six albums, all of which are certified platinum. Most recently, he performed at the Super Bowl XLIX 2015 Halftime Show with main artist Katy Perry. She also performed with other female artists for the song “Ther Is For My Girls”, as part of a movement initiative made by former American first lady, Michelle Obama, Let Girls Learn and # 62MillionGirls Campaign, which is targeted to raise awareness about the lack of education in among girls all over the world.
